Place to Sleep Hotels opens it’s 8. location in Lohja
In August 2019 Place to Sleep Hotels opened it’s eight hotel in Lohja, some 60 km from Helsinki. Another hotel operated in the same address for 20 years.
”We are very glad that hotel services continue in the same address, although the operator changed. Place to Sleep Hotels’ concept fits very well in Lohja’s accommodation mix. I’m confident that they build and develop their operations professionally and with a long span, both here in Lohja and nationally. A growth-focused hotel chain is certainly interesting news both to companies and consumers. It is precisely these kinds of companies that developing cities need”, says Tapani Tapiola, Business Service Manager at City of Lohja.
Prime example of a great Place to Sleep location
Orya Invest Oy’s founder Jan-Henrik Holmlund, who operates the Place to Sleep Hotels chain, explains why Lohja is such an interesting market for the company; “There’s a great buzz in business, industry and public events in Lohja, as well as great tourist attractions like the Tytyri mine. Combined with close proximity to Helsinki this allows for varied year-round accommodation needs, yet not necessarily a big enough market for a traditional full service hotel.”
”Unlike most hotel chains, who focus only on the biggest cities, we want to offer accommodation in locations of all sizes. This is possible with the help of digitalization and a partner network. A cornerstone of our concept is also a central location next to all the local services. Lohja is a prime example in this respect”, Holmlund elaborates.
Always with a local twist
Since they operate in leaseholds, each Place to Sleep Hotel is different. An interesting detail in Lohja is, that the venue was originally designed to be a clothing store. The shop never opened, but still today one room has windows almost from floor to ceiling, since it was meant to be a shop window. Perfect for wannabe supermodels?
”This detail brings nice local flair to our Lohja hotel. Each of our hotels is unique, which we value and even strive for. We want to offer our guests a local experience instead of a strictly defined concept”, explains Holmlund.
A local experience is in fact a central part of the Place to Sleep concept. The hotel chain focuses on the accommodation service. For all other services, like breakfast and cleaning, it relies on partners with expertise in each respective field. This operational model enables an ecosystem, which supports the local communities and offers travelers more variety and genuine encounters in the destination.
“Our guests can choose a cafeteria of their own liking and meet locals there. Or they can fetch snacks from a supermarket, which is what many prefer. In Lohja we can also offer the option to enjoy breakfast at the hotel. The buffet is offered by our local partner Brekucorner and it can be booked as an additional service with the room reservation”, Holmlund informs with great excitement.
High growth targets
The hotel chain continues to grow rapidly. ”Each location with a minimum of 10 000 inhabitants is a potential market for us. Only in Finland there are almost 100 potential locations and in Europe some 10 000, so the growth potential is huge”, stresses Orya Invest’s Holmlund. He predicts that the tenth hotel in Finland will be opened still in 2019 and by the end of 2020 there will be 15-20 hotels open or under construction. Next year the first hotels abroad should also open. More news about the expansion will follow shortly.
